Policies and Rules Moderators must follow
Moderator Behavior
Moderating a forum gives you power and, along with that power, responsibility. Your aim as a moderator is to use your powers for the benefit of the community.
Breaking any of the Board rules, moderator rules, or flaming any member on the forum or through instant messaging will result in the loss of moderator status.
Moderator Rules
• Check the forum at least 2-3 times a week.
• Always try to be polite, be helpful, and make this a welcoming place.
• Help new users on the forum who are experiencing problems with forum.
• Respect the opinions of others when they differ from your own; you should never delete, move or alter a post because you disagree with its opinion or contents. If in question, ask the administrator.
• Inform the administrator if you find any problems or bugs in the forum.
• Above all, keep your cool.
Moderator Tips
• Tackle the Report-A-Posts as you see fit. Sometimes reported posts don’t need moderation and sometimes they result in warnings. After you have taken action on a reported post, make sure you clear it. I’ll delete it later.
• Move posts that:
o have been posted on the forum that you moderate but should have been posted on a different one. Leave a shadow link for these threads.
o unrelated to Deutsch Kurzhaar, racist, sexist, insulting or contains or links to illegal content. This includes anything that is a violation of copyright law. These threads are moved to a locked location called “Locked Posts”. Do not leave a shadow link for these threads.
• Split threads that are off-topic (but still related to the forum) into a new topic. This should be performed sparingly as topics are bound to go off-subject but should get back on topic a few posts later-on.
• Edit posts with care. By changing a sentence or paragraph, you can change intent. Editing should be performed to edit bbcode (ie, if someone didn’t close their image or quote tags properly), or to edit out foul language, insults/name calling or inappropriate images while keeping the relevant information. If you can give the author a chance to moderate their post, please do so.
If you aren’t sure if you should edit, don’t. Consult with another moderator or the administrator.
• Give warnings in threads if you feel a topic is about to experience a flame war. Don't call out a specific person or post, just ask that the thread get back on track or it will have to be locked.
• You have the ability to delete threads but this rarely happens here. I ask that you move rotten threads because first, if I have to give someone a warning I have the thread as reference, and two, over time saved locked threads can show a history of member abuse.
• I ask that if you have a bias or personal history with a member who needs moderating and you know you cannot moderate them objectively, please ask another moderator to take care of the needed actions.
Actions
Moderators can:
• Move Topics and Posts
• Split Topics
• Merge Posts into other Topics and Merge Topics together
• Edit Posts, Polls, and Attachments
• Delete Topics and Posts (not recommended)
• Lock and unlock Topics
• Warning users
