The Versatile Hunting Dog April issue just came. I am excited! My first congratulations to Dave Trahan. Dave and four Deutsch Kurzhaars are on the cover!

The article about this cover picture was just in the NADKC e-newsletter. I thought it was a great article about Dave, Tascha, DKs and lots of our members when I read it in the e-newsletter. It is really great to get the cover picture exposure on the NAVHDA magazine.

Unfortunately, the Versatile Hunting Dog copy editor had misspelled 'Deutsch' and 'Kurzhaar'. Not many will notice because it is a great picture.

I hope that someone has a color scanner and will post the cover picture and article.

I am not done however. I turn the page and see an article by John Calandra about VC Xindie von Neuarenberg. I am really excited! Great article and you got to read it. The article was about John, Diane, Xindie (Gabi), DKs, and lots of our members. Unfortunately, the copy editor misspelled 'Kurzhaar' and 'Neuarenberg'.

I hope that someone has a color scanner and will post this article. Thank you John & Diane!

I turned the rest of pages looking for any additional mention of DKs. There was one more. Butch Grover and VC Regal vom Riverwoods received a NAVHDA Invitational Breeder Award. Congratulations to Butch! This award is a little sadder because there is an empty collar for Regal. Thank you Regal for giving so much to our Deutsch Kurzhaar breed.

PS I hope that I didn't miss anything else about DKs in this issue. I plan to read the magazine later.

yes it is very nice,

I don't know if we're allowed to scan and post the article here.
maybe partial but not the entire page.

Thanks for posting John. Not everyone is a NAVHDA member and the news about getting the DK in the hands of other versatile venues is promising.

I have mulled over a few times why a versatile testing system like NAVHDA,who has so many GSPs, does not have more testers looking into DKs.

Can it be the training days offered by chapters?
I don't think so - some chapters only offer training days once a month.

I don't think it can be the hospitality of chapters.
The NADKC is about on the same hospitality grade as the NADKC.

Can it be the traveling to tests?
I don't know - I know a lot of NAVHDA testers who travel a heck of alot.

What I have concluded is that the time line for testing and the requiements for solms is daunting for some.DKs have a good dose of prey drive and are a determined breed - the type of dog that actually teaches you,not you teaching the dog.
With so much emphasis being put on prize 1s, I think many would like the opportunity to take a test when they are ready,as many times as they need and really don't like the idea of their dog being not breedable.
In order to go to the NAVHDA Invitational your dog needs a UT prize 1.
In order to take VGP your dog merely needs to breathe.

I enjoy this system and wouldn't want to change it to meet the needs of others just to obtain puppy sales or a larger membership.

I am thrilled that the GSP has been bred and proven in NAVHDA. It just seems more natural that a breed like the DK would be a first choice - considering it has never deterred from the versatile path.

:D My goodness....What an absurd statement!! Try PASSING it with a dog that merely breathes. And you only get two shots.
