Someone met my DK pup the other day and was surprised to see she still had her dew claws.
It is a common practice to remove the dew claws?
Thanks

I'm sure you can have them remove for free by the same vet who was suppose to remove them wend she was 3 days old.

I honestly don't know why I would or would not. If its not hurting anything, I see no point in it. If there is a soild reason to do it, I most certainly would.

Having the dew claws removed now may be very painful, as the are like a toe.
I have not had any problems with dew claws but I keep them short. I do not know that any breeder in europe removes dew claws.
I do not know that injury is high enough to warrent removing them. A versatile dog would need them, I think. Especially when dispatching feril cats and coons an such.

My dog was a German import and had the dew claws. After discussion with my vet who sees many many hunting dogs ,he stated that he has never seen an injury caused by the dew claw, I decided to let the dog keep all his "toes"
