On another board there is a discussion that the Deutsch Kurzhaar is called, in Germany, Deutsch Kurzhaaringer Vorstehhund. Meaning German Shorthaired Pointer. I believe this name came from English translation.
Am I correct? What is the true name of the breed?

thanks,
Francine

I am curious when I translate what you wrote I do not get German shorthair pointer. Madonna hopefully will give the history. But as I remember Deutsch Kurzhaar is the name. That pointer was taken off long ago because it is a versatile dog not just a pointer. You would see the same thing in the other German Breeds DD. Or else the pointer was never there and the Americans added it when they registered the race in the AKC. I think that was covered in The Complete German Shorthaired Pointer Book by Seiger and Dewitz-Colpin. But speaking of that notice what title those 2 put on the book. Go figure...

The historic name of the DK is Brauntiger und Preussisch Kurzhaar. When both clubs united 1934 they got the Name: Deutsch Kurzhaar
the Deutsch-Kurzhaar belongs to the Deutsch-Vorstehhunde- German Pointing dogs. but they were never only pointing dogs like the pointer, but allrounder. Greeting madonna
